If you’re lucky enough to have Ewa or Katrzyna (enter another Polish name of your choice) make it freshly for you, Starbucks’ filter coffee is better than their variations on the espresso theme.

They call it Pike Place here. And it is excellent “coffee” type coffee.

The first time I went to my Polish friends for a coffee, they made it black and gave me some sugar and some milk to add, which I did and stirred, took a sip and got a mouthful of ground coffee.

Turns out many Polish houses put ground coffee into the cup and add water, then add further water ask they drink. Letting it settle first before drinking.

I wish they told me first. Lol.

I’m not a fan of Starbucks. I much prefer Costa. Starbucks is overpriced.

Starbucks’ Poles are fully indoctrinated though! But yes, the Poles in Costa do usually produce something marginally better.

Ye’, I do sort of get that sinking feeling of walking into a coffee shop and it’s some recently out of uni British youth who aspires to be a musician, yada, yada, with so much hair product in their hair having a conversation with their friend and ignoring your presence because they are busy discussing Nirvana and how most fans can’t name more than five songs, etc...

The Polish ones serve, talk to their colleague while not ignoring you, make a good coffee and smile.

I have been trying to figure this out. Maybe this is egg coffee. The eggs cause the grounds to clump and settle down to the bottom. I had read before about eggshells being used to settle out coffee grounds when making coffee in an open pot.

No it’s just ground coffee, coffee ground put in the cup and water added. The ground coffee does settle at the bottom. They simply don’t drink till it has or drink to the bottom of the cup.

They must use a fairly course ground. I tried that and it did not work at all. I think it is because I had a finer ground.

I don’t know what grind it was but it certainly wasn’t fine/espresso.

They soon got some coffee granules which was preferred by everyone else afterwards. Rob and Raf don’t drink coffee or tea so I wouldn’t expect any fantastic coffee.

I like good coffee but at home I usually settle for my Tassimo and coffee discs.
